Bill 602P is a Hoax

KAMLOOPS: MP Betty Hinton (Kamloops, Thompson and Highland Valleys) wants to assure people that neither the federal government nor Canada Post has any thoughts about charging for emails – as far as she knows.

Mrs. Hinton has had many calls/emails directed to her offices this week regarding an email that is circulating concerning a supposed Bill 602P. In this message the writer warns that people will soon have to pay a fee of five cents on every email delivered. This is a hoax.

“Although I’d be happy to be able to uncover another potential tax grab by the federal Liberals, this information is erroneous,” said Hinton.

Hinton said the public should be aware that all bill numbers that are discussed by Parliament are prefixed by a C (Commons) or S (Senate) depending on where the bill originated. An example is Bill C250, the legislation to amend the Criminal Code, which is before Parliament this session.

“My researcher has checked and there is no lawyer listed in Toronto (or anywhere in Ontario) by the name listed in the email; there is no MP noted in the email; there is not Bill before Parliament concerning this issue,” said Hinton.

“I’d suggest people not pass on this hoax to their friends or family,” said Hinton.
