KAMLOOPS: Betty Hinton, MP (Kamloops Thompson Highland Valleys) is visiting residents and businesses in Barriere today.

Hinton and TNRD Representative Bill Kershaw will spend the afternoon in the city talking with various people including ranchers affected by the forest fires.

"Although I have been to the evacuee centre regularly, and heard some of the stories, I want to see for myself what people have had to endure in the past few weeks," said Hinton. "I also need to see what needs to be done."

Hinton and Canadian Alliance Leader Stephen Harper (Leader of the Official Opposition) are hosting a barbecue on Sunday afternoon for the community.

"Anyone who's been impacted by the fire, whether that's volunteers, professionals, or residents, we'd like to be able to say thank you for your courage and resilience. We'd like people to come out, take a minute, share a hamburger and tell their story," said Hinton.
